kitting out the car so that me and the lady can sleep in the back for our trip around Europe (may 2015)

and id like to find out a few things.. firstly has anyone fitted curtains into a discovery of any sort? id love some tips or ideas on how to do it and secondly I'm also thinking of window tinting so that no nosey parkers look into the back while its parked up. I've been quoted 200 for the tinting which is probably a good price i guess.. but its still expensive when your on a shoe string budget! has anyone done it themselves? if so is it easy? or would you say clear and leave it to someone who knows how to do it? and finally i guess.. if there is anyone who lives near manchester who knows how to do it or maybe wants to learn with me then give us a shout and we can give it a go :)

Ps. its for a discovery 2 2001 with no leaky sunroof :)

Not sure on the curtains but the window tinting is easy enough.

Done it on my last disco. :)

Just be sure the windows are very clean and you take your time. Cut the tint to shape on the outside of the window slightly larger than what's showing (this will allow for the bit hidden in the channels) then use plenty of water and fairy liquid and put it on both window and the sticky side of the tint.
Work from the centre with a soft squidgy blade type thing to get all the air bubbles out and hey presto! Done! :)

Took me about 2 hours to do all of the windows from rear passenger doors back to boot. Including the alpine windows. (the alpine windows were an arse to get right though) Think it cost me about £30 all in from the tint I bought off eBay with some to spare!

Will he doing my latest disco with 99% tint again soon but will wait for the spring as it's not nice doing it in winter when your hands are freezing cold and wet.

1. There are restrictions on how dark a tint you can have - check up on that.
2. I hate tinted for reversing at night.
3. If you turn a light on inside then yoy might as well not have bothered with the tinting.
4. I am contemplating using a top-half car cover. Only snag as fa as I can see is when you want to open a door.

In a few of our cars we have the Pop in window mesh window blinds, restrict the visabilty into th back quite well stop people looking in, act as a fly screen when it's parked up but you want to keep the window ajar. Fitting takes a few seconds a window and can be removed and re applied at well.

Don't buy cheap sh1te ebay tints - fade like buggery. This was my limo tinted rear after 24 months! Notice the dark patch where it sat in the channel - the rest was nearly as light as a standard front.

On my KIA there would be no problem with a cover, as the rear doors slide. On a disco or Defender you might be able to open the "boot", put the cover on, and then shut the door, trapping it inside, if it was not too thick.

Can you open the back door from inside?

Get the tinting done professionally - it will be perfect! I've paid £250 in the past for a large 4x4 so £200 seems a good price. Blackout fabric on Velcro is my preferred option to curtains.
I mentioned to my 17yr old that we could visit the Tour de France and sleep in the back of ours, his reply, "you can sleep in the back all you want but I'll be staying in a Hotel!"

spirit of adventure jumped a generation.

thanks guys, parking at night is a big factor as the miss's isn't very comfortable driving the landy at night anyway so i recon that Blackout fabric curtains will have to do! at least that way we can take it off the windows and reduce blind spots. ill keep posting photo's of the progress :)
