Anyone familiar with the Croxton Heath area? Specifically the 'bomb holes' Off Hereward Way? Got some friends that play up that way, but have a feeling they're venturing into in 'section 59' territory.

hi,

I think I know where you mean. Hereward Way past Stanton Downham into the woods and come out the other side on the Watton Road. No Problem staying on the main route ( one bomb hole there) but there looks to be a lot of off piste activity...

My fellow Glass members are keeping an eye there as there seems to be a lot of "off reading" going on there.....

Sounds about right. Thanks. If you were looking on an OS map, it would be about TL893 888. I'll advise my friends that it's out of bounds.

Could you advise on any other nearby places they can go to instead? (on the basis that if they're somewhere fun AND legal, they're not off being somewhere they shouldn't).

Confirmed (by forestry commission on phone). The ONLY trail for vehicles through that wood (and the one after it) is the one going west to east, and Peddars Way. Anywhere off those tracks are 'Section 59 ticket' territory.

And for an added bonus, those woods are SSSI's.

hi,

You can do a circuit starting on the a11 next to the services, across the A11 which is part of peddars way, over the crossing to croxfield Heath, on tsrmack go Hereward way (also known as track 23 the doggers track....) then a big more road into Mundford then there are some good tracks out towards weeping.

If you have memory map or view ranger I have some gpx files....

Cheers

Darren
