cross bars

Does anyone know what sort of weight I can put on the standard cross bars attatched to my roof rails ? can I attatch a roof box to them ?

the manual states a maximum load of 50kg on road and 30kg off road, hope this is of use to you

We took a silly amount of wine back to Blighty in a roof box on the Disco last crimble.
The problem we encountered was getting the stuff down after a few bottles
