My 1998 L series diesel 78K makes a deep squeek (sounds like a loud cricket insect) when over 1500rpm and slight adjustment of the accelerator pedal is made, mostly when coming off the accelerator but also happens when putting on. This is more noticeable when actually driving. However, we can simulate the issue when parked in neutral by tapping the accelerator at around 2000rpm+. The sound is coming from the back of the engine bay somewhere near the turbo and EGR. It occasionally dose bleep this cricket sound when idling in traffic. This has become more noticeable in the 6 month we have had it.
Any experience or suggestions for proper testing of these would be greatly received. I understand the function and workings these components but do not have the knowledge of how to diagnose problems with them. I know Freelanders suffer from clogged EGRs but fear it may be a turbo issue.
In the 6 months we have had the car it has eaten all £2k of our savings with its endless problems. So have little funds left to do as my local mechanic says and just swap em for a grand and see if it sorts it
