Hi, New to the site so forgive me if the post isn't right.

I have a 2009 RRS TDV8 that has started to produce a noise from the rear of the car - assume back axle. I've attached a short video clip taken by go pro from under the car that highlights the noise (its zipped). Main dealer and local garage cant pin point it - replaced the prop shaft (££) and the sway bar (£££) on their advice but no difference. Any ideas!

PS, I don't think I've run over a woodpecker!

Hi

Are u able to do it in a different format plse, can’t play it on my iPad, thks

Assume you’ve checked all ur wishbones , droplinks already

Plus another thing to check are the harmonic weights that sit right under the back bumper

That sounds more like jumping splines or broken half shafts ,some thing rotational .

Funny enough I couldn’t open it , as you’ve heard it , doesn’t sound like brake shoes then as the EPB shoes are behind the rear disc

Hi,
Thanks for responses so far.

I'll see if I can save the upload to a different format but this site is quite restricted on what you can upload unfortunately. Hence I've had to compress (zip) it. If you click on it it should unzip and be playable??

I'd agree it sounds like something rotational. A dry bush or bearing perhaps??

Other information which could be useful:
  • The noise is intermittent - it does not happen all the time. But it is getting gradually more frequent.
  • The noise on the video only occurs at low speed - less than 10mph. And it doesn't occur when driving in a straight line - turn left or right and it happens.
  • Above 10mph and below say 30mph you sometimes get a rumbling noise when cornering. Above 30mph, you wouldn't know there was a problem.
  • The camera is pointing at the inner side of the rear off-side wheel - this does not mean that the noise is coming from there - in fact sounds more central (diff area!) but hard to tell.
  • I've had the car since 2010 and has been utterly reliable. Dealer maintained, low mileage @ 83k.
Cheers

Hi

Many thks , are u able to load it onto u tube plse

Have u also checked all ur wishbones , droplinks , etc , put the vehicle into access mode and then grab the top of the tyre , then rock it , see if u can feel any movement

As if a bush is worn as u corner it puts weight on that side, just a thought

Know it can sometimes be difficult trying to pin down a noise

Plse let us know how it goes

Youtube link...

Yes, checked all the bushes as far as is possible - all seem good. As I hope you can see from the video it does seem to be related to the drive train rather than the suspension??
