Hi guys,, my Defender 300tdi 1994 is playing funny buggers.
I have her ticking over, I go round back and open back door all the way round to the point my spare wheel is touching the rear light guard cage and she stalls.????????
Also whilst doing this my stereo shuts off and my LED rear indicators flicker.
If I shut the back door she seems fine apart from if I flash my main beam the radio shuts off.
I cant see anything obvious that could cause this..
Any ideas????
Bad earth maybe.

Well , I would guess a short or a dodgy earth some where.

But you could have some funkadelic fun with it, that or your motor is possessed?

Cheers

Had the radio and light problem and that was down to the engine earth. Previous owner had failed to bolt the battery lead to the transfer box and put another engine to body earth in. This needed cleaning. As for the rest, tend to go with the earth in the rear door. The only other problem that I had come across has been the loom chafing on the inner N/S wing at the front, although in this case my mate kept burning out hazard switches. Good luck in finding the fault.

Thanks m8,, I will look into fitting a new earth to engine tomorrow.. I have been at it all night and cant see anything untoward.
Sometimes it doesnt do it and everything is fine, but then I flash main beam and the stereo turns off.. ITs a pain in the ass

Yes that sounds like my problem. Even if they are connected it may be worth taking off and cleaning up. Good luck
