Crankshaft keys - are genuine really going to be any different?

Normally, id very much consider a bit of metal to be pretty much the same, but –

I removed two keys yesterday -

The key that was badly mangled seemed to be of a softer metal than the one on the front. When I was hammering it with a drift, it deformed more, for, I think, the same amount of hammering.

And it had failed in use.


So, do I spend an extra £7 on what might actually be the same item?


ERR5215 is the part number.

For critical items I always buy genuine from our dealer, no excuses then.

There are many kinds and grades of steel, true key steel should not shear so easily.
Did you ever see the cheap silver allen keys which people bought? they would have been better buying ones made of solder, but use a GKN or Bacho key and they were pretty tough.
