Crankcase pressure.....

Can someone tell me how to tell if the crankcase pressure is correct or too high on a 300tdi???

Good question! I'd like to know too. Mine's blowing oil from behind the crankcase breather and you can feel the pressure when undoing the oil filler. I read a post on here where the dipstick was being blown out of it's tube! Mine's not that bad though.

Unlock your oil filler cap but leave it in place on the valve cover, with the engine idling it should sit there with just a little bit of movement, if it gets blown off or rattles around a lot then you probably have excess pressure. Make sure your breather system, cyclone and pipes are clear too.

I have done exactly what you have mentioned above. I am attempting to upload a video to show you the outcome of the test.
The cap does rattle a little but it certainly doesn't get blown off. If you give it a little throttle then it stays completely still so not sure if the rattle is crankcase pressure or the idle simply needs adjusting a little as it maybe too slow causing additional vibration.
Once I have figured out how to post a video you will be able to give me your thoughts.

What is the actual issue you are trying to diagnose?

Landy drives like a normally aspirated vehicle only boosting to 0.4 bar, lots of oil in boost pipes, lots of oil around cyclone breather.
Possible causes may simply be that oil seals have gone in turbo either through age/mileage and a faulty actuator. However, I want to cover all avenues before fitting a brand new turbo as I don't want to knacker a new turbo out of stupidity.

That may be a smidge more than mine (will have a look later) but I wouldn't be overly concerned with that.

looks like a lot of that is when it is idling, the water in the exp tank is juming about a lot.

Little side note, you might want to consider changing the thermoset bleed cap to a brass one.

I was a little concerned about the exp tank hence I shot it in the video, yet I've been told it isn't an issue. It is also not using any water and it is crystal clear.
I know my idle needs upping a little as it is very lumpy and slow hence I think the vibration of the cap at idle is a lot to do with that.

Had a look at mine tonight and it is the same as yours (including expansion tank) so I don't think you have any issues there.

Well just finished fitting new turbo and my Landy now drives like a Landy should. Boosting just shy of 1bar and pulling really strong I am extremely happy. I don't think it's ever been right since I bought it but at last it is sorted. New radiator, intercooler and oil cooler being fitted tomorrow too.
