I have been getting a definite vibration and grind/rubbing noise at low RPMs in my D2 that at first I thought was transmission related. The vibration usually stops after getting over 1500 to 2000 RPMs, but the grind/rubbing stays usually only when it hits overdrive or just starting off. I stopped by a mechanic and he gave it a test drive and showed me my harmonic balancer was wobbling. I am going to take it to get fixed but I am terrified that the grinding noise that I am also hearing is more than just the harmonic balancer.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I found a harmonic balancer on ebay taken off of a 02 D2 with 79,000 miles. I am thinking of buying it for 100 dollars, I would hope this is not a bad idea.
What else could possibly be wrong with my D2 after he takes the balancer off? My luck always seems to lead me to bigger problems, so I would like someone to tell me what I am in for.
Update: There also used to be what sounded like a broken off piece getting kicked around that came from the same area of the motor, as well as sometimes when I cranked it up it would clunk right before it started. it quit one day but now I have this new problem... Can anyone help me on this one???
