My timing belt has gone bang, which is not a huge worry but I cannot get the large bolt undone on the crank damper. Have had a locking tool on it with a 4 foot scaff bar on my long breaker bar and all I managed to do was bend my locking tool and shear a bolt that held it on.

Anyone got any ideas of something else I can try???

it needs to be shocked - jam a strong breaker bar on the chassis and flick the starter, having first taken the fuel solenoid wire off

OK, have tried using the engine, have tried my air gun (although not convinced this is working correctly) have tried heating it up and bouncing on it with big bar and still no joy.

What if I cut the washer off would that help relieve the pressure on the bolt and then let it come undone?????

I think you're going to have to remove the starter motor and wedge something into the starter ring to lock the crank solid. Otherwise, there's too much give in the transmission for a hammer to be effective at shocking the bolt loose - it will just "bounce".

But borrow a know good air gun and try that first. My cheapo air gun undid mine yesterday - it took a couple of goes though, whilst my little compressor re-filled the tank.

Finally got the thing undone, just as I was about to call the scrap man to take the landy out my sight!!!
I ended up cutting 3 grooves into the washer beating it with a big hammer and chisel then bouncing on my breaker bar with scaff bar slid over it.
This after breaking 2 breaker bars, heating the life out of the bolt and washer and trying just about everything.
Now just need new washer and a good clean up.
