Cow bell type sound under car

Hi

At slow speed with, what I can only describe as a cow bell type noise any ideas.....


Also reverse seems a bit more clunky than normal

And before someone else says it I have not run over a cow!!

a frame bushes, loose shock, or other suspension bushes, what model, year, how many miles? The more info the better the guess

its a td5 2.5 130000 miles 2003

you've obviously run a cow down, what else could it be?

how often does it make it , all the time, at certain speed,gear change.

Can only hear it at low speeds 1 -2 gear I think

Catalytic converter braking up inside could be a possibility. Funny you should say, mine sounded like cows bells when it went on my disco 2. If so just get shot of it & go for a straight down pipe.

Amen to that - 50 odd quid for a de-cat pipe versus 200+ quid for a cat one

Has someone pranked you and tied a cowbell under it?

Loose prop nut/bolt? Mine was, but that was more like a Morris dancer than a cow

Loose heat shield cant remember if its engine or gearbox mount that has the shield.just nip underneath and tap and you will hear it jangle.

I had a noise like that.
It was the exhast downpipe,the flexi part had stretched and was just hitting the chassis giving a metalic noise could be described as you say.
New decat down pipe fitted, noise gone and a better performance.

does the noise disappear under braking - could be the anti-rattle shims or back plate disintegrated on the front pads - that what caused mine.

The noise my one was making disappeared when the hand brake was pulled on a bit while going along, leading me to believe it was hand brake related. It was purely the loose prop nut, which also sounded worse while coasting for some reason.
