You boys may find some of these daft questions, however I really have no idea, otherwise I wouldn't be asking! Quite why girls aren't taught more about engines etc is beyond me, anyway...

Right, firstly I need a new driver side car mat. The one on the drivers side has been completely worn through where the drivers heels rest. The others are immaculate though, so I only want the one. Am I being unrealistic in looking for 1? Should I just shut up and get a complete new set?

There a few spots of rust on the window surrounds, mainly on the rear windows. How do I best treat these and prevent any spread?

How easy would it be to replace the lose leather surround thingamejig on the gear stick? The one on my Disco is fraying and is split on one side.

It seems to me that there is more than one height setting for the tow bar, I think mine is currently too low for my trailer, as in for the travelling comfort of my horses. Should I take it too a Landrover garage to alter the height or would my local garage be OK?

Man, typing that out makes it all seem quite daft indeed lol. Though I'd really appreciate some advice.

look on ebay for your mats

i'm not a bodywork specialist so i will leave the rust one to someone else

the loose leatehr thingamyjig is the gear lever gaiter.. and should be faily easy to replace

You won't be able to adjust the rear height of the disco, it's self leveling, so will adjust itself depending on the load (if you have the model with air bags etc) Springs will just depress as normal.

To adjust the how hitch height, it's easy (assuming it's an adjustable Land Rover one) there is one pin to pull out with a R clip, or split pin. The hole hitch bracket should slide up or down, then put the pin back in to the new hole.

Your only struggle will be if it's rusty etc.

This probably isn't the correct way to do it but when I had a few rust spots inside the door handle, I used some of that hammerite rust converter. It protects it and turns it black so you can't see it.

*touches wood* nowt wrong with the rear height of the disco, I know it self adjusts :) It the height setting of the towbar. I assume it's factory fitted, it looks adjustable to me - will take a pic.

Hammerite is better than nothing - thank you!

HA! I'm sure I will.

Pics of my tow bar and also of what I mean by the rust on the window surround

Ah, that's not an adjustable one as such, but it can be adjusted if you get my drift. Just unbolt the hitch and bolt back up with the desired holes.

The window rust is very common on discos. Mine did similar. For a quick fix, and got the surface rust off and put some black waxoyle on it. It will stop the rust, and the colour match isn't too bad.

Good luck

aye just move them up to the next set of bolt holes, i would use new bolts though as the old ones are likely to have had their strength compromised by age and corrosion

as said the indows just rub them down with some wet n dry and paint them i know someone who used smooth hammerite and it didn't look too bad (better than rust anyhow)
