Council fine for oil on road!

According to the article she had been warned but appears to have done nothing about it.

I park my car on the road. I've been out there with a pressure washer before, cleaning up the tarmac.

I suspect pressure washing does more harm than good, but it makes you look like a caring individual, which, I like to think, buys you some slack!

Oil spillage is one good reason why doing your own oil changes isn't always a good idea. The job itself is easy enough but getting rid of the stuff can be a trial, and old engine oil can be really nasty stuff.

WMO, in bulk, has a positive market value.
Regardless of this, my council tip still takes it.

...I once went to the dump on the way to the scrap yard - trailer was loaded with non-recyclables which have a negative market value, and metal, which i was on my way to sell for money. Yellow jacket jobs worth leapt out, and told me i wasnt allowed to dump the metal there (but was fine leaving the costly to dispose of waste).

I explained to him i wasnt leaving it there, but i was on my way to the scrap yard, where they would give me money for it. He was wise enough not to be fooled by my ticky words though, and made sure he stood by the trailer like a hawk whilst i unloaded the rubbish, so as i did not manage to get one over on him and leave any of the shiny metal behind....

You sure you live in Devon ??? I only ask as I had the same experience at the local "recycling center" ( Must be a worm hole about  )

A recycling center that doesn't take the most recyclable thing know to man  - ho hum, like you I got paid for taking it to the scrappy, so :p to em.

:D

Was thinking of Gunking the tarmac outside ours (y'know, to show willing), but then thought about what the tarmac is made of (?)
Could make things a lot worse. :(

Hmmm - maybe some fairy liquid and a stiff brush..

And then I'll go look at the oil stain in the street again :p

Bottle of really cheap cola, vinegar or some caustic soda ...

Petrol works well, cos it dissolves the tarmac too ....

Many years ago I a mate a lift round to one of his mates who wasn't very mechanically minded but had decided to attempt changing the oil on his BSA C15. Got there just to see the last of the oil pouring out into the drain he'd parked it over

He then asked if he should run the engine to pump the last of it out before putting the new in...

My local tip takes oil.

I put a tarp down, chuck a bit of sand on if I spill any oil and use drip trays.

I still manage to get some on the drive but I use Gunk and a pressure washer to clean it up. Tbh sand directly on then swept soaks up a lot

My brother inlaw cleaned his engine with Gunk on his tarmac drive, he has great big bare patches there now with the old concrete showing, it makes a great job of turning tarmac into gravel.

Last year one of the lads parked the dumper with a diesel leak right over the top of the freshly laid top coat 10mm foot path right in front of one of the front doors, left it there ticking over for about half an hour and then wondered why he got sacked when the puddle seeped in and dissolved the bitumen and he made it worse by getting the kitty litter granules and sweeping them all over it, there was a grey hole in the tarmac that looked sh!t and took a fair bit of effort to fix.

I keep the oil absorbent pads that we get in our spill kits in the discovery for oil changes and I've got a special drain tray for when I do the filter otherwise it ends up all over the front diff :(

I've found an Ice Cream* container really good for this - drop the filter in it too, and bob is your mothers brother and all that ;)

* the 1800ml Walls Soft Scoop ones :D
