Could this mean the end of my Disco?

After an eventful winter the Disco did me well through the snow, saving many a motorist and ferrying my dogs around. Last week I got hit in the nearside rear quarter by some numpty driving too fast in the slush as I was exiting a mini round-a-bout onto the local petrol stations forecourt.

It's going in next week to be assessed, the engineer who came out today said it'll be touch and go if it is repairable due to the costs involved! Looks like the whole rear quarter needs to be replaced as it is bowed, not sure if the chassis took a hit either, it'll need to be jigged. Side window is not flush now, rear door rubs on the panel and water comes in onto the load cover, also got a rumble between 60-70mph. Add to that lower trims and a bumper assembly, cherching!

What are my chances people?

"Don't know if you know but if someone else crashes into your car the insurance company have no legal right to write off your car, as the damaged has been caused by others and you are claiming off their insurance they must repair it if you want it repaired. they will argue and say they don't but they (their member) has caused you the damage so they have to repair it. Its like someone coming along and taking your Landy off you and then saying here is 8k to cover it it's not allowed, so someone can't damage your property and then just offer to give you some cash, unless you chose to settle. they will put a lot of presure on you if it is badly damaged but have no right in law to write it off. If you had caused the acdient your insurance company can write it off as that is within your policy."

That being said, when our Disco was reversed into, despite the other driver admitting full responsibility we had to get the repairs done through our insurer who then claimed the cost's back from the other driver's insurance co. In our instance we ended up having to "write-off" a perfectly good Disco as our ins. co. would not pay out the full cost of repair (£2300).

Through all this hassle we had a hire car for over 3 month's:eek: whilst the two insurer's squabbled amongst themselves, a record for the hire car company involved apparently:doh:

Check with your insurer's as to how it'll get sorted out or you could get stung like we did.

So my Disco II that was vandalised by a numpty with a screwdriver and a can of spray paint needn't have been written off?

it must have been in a right state then if it was written of because of that.

Aye, they fairly had a go at it.

What miffed me was the CCTV at the prison should have got the buggers but the CCTV just happened to not be working when it happened.

If I ever find out who vandalised my Disco I'll vandalise them.

Pointless putting up pictures as it doesn't look much! If it wasn't for the lower panel being pushed in you wouldn't notice the full damage. I doubt if it is a write off, but you never know how these people work! The accident repair centre the 3rd party's insurers have nominated is a quality one so fingers crossed. The hire car I am arranging through my legal cover, like for like, as the repair centre would only offer a basic car, need something for me dogs. All costs are covered regardless so I only pay the voluntary damage collision waiver, £4.40 per day or maxxed out at £40 as opposed to £250 if I don't have it and end up damaging it.

Anyhow, it's going in next Friday, I'll keep you posted but expect it to be repaired regardless, would be a waste of a good disco.
