i went down a dirt track this evening with a few small pot holes in and the eas has dropped.the pump is working overtime and is sucking in air.
no warning lights have come up on the dash.
could this be a split air bag?
also i've got a 2 ton trolley jack and 3 ton axle stands ,will these be safe to use?
how easy are the air bags to change?
thanks

Provided your jack has enough lift and you have axle stands.

You should be able to change your airbags, as your only going to be lifting part of the rangies weight.

So when a arctic lorry breaks down you need a 44 ton SWL bottle jack, if you need to lift/remove a wheel....following your logic.

no you dont, but for safetys sake use a jack that is safety rated for the vehicle you are going to jack up,thats my safety criteria maybe not yours,as for the artic if you are only going to remove a wheel you can use a lower rated jack, the thread asked if he could use a 2 ton jack to lift his car and use 3 ton axle stands.

I trained as a commercial vehicle mechanic 35+ years ago and I am still on the tools, dibbles asked if he he could change an airbag using a 2 ton trolley jack and axles stands.

I presume he wouldn't try to lift the complete vehicle in one lift, only one corner or one axle at once, considering the diff casing is offset a straight axle lift is almost out, so a corner lift is on. The only problem would be if the jack couldn't lift high enough to get the chassis on the stands with a fecked airbag.

But even that can be over come by various methods

i too trained as a mechanic like yourself but on cars, the question was can he use a 2ton jack to lift his vehicle and use 3 ton stands,i said i did not think that was safe, thats my opinion,if he wants to use a lower rated jack by all means use it.:D

Personally I wouldn't use a 2 post lift on any vehicle no matter what the swl was or the car size, its 4 posts only for me, but a floor jack is a different matter.

dibbles, with the car running and the suspension up on high, leave a door open and spray some water with washing up liquid allaround the rubber cones, especially where the fold in them is. If you see them bubbling then they are leaking.

Mine were all perished and showing canvass when I brought my p38.
The dealer has a can of special stuff a bit like a plastic coating they spray on them that does the same job, just that it blows much bigger bubbles ;)

No idea where you are, but if your local to me I still have a can of the stuff you can have a go on.

i didn't change them myself, got a friend to do them at a sensible price, so not sure exactly how involved it is to change them.

Hope that helps.
