Cost of a replacement gearbox / transferbox / rewire - 90 200 TDI

I have just bought what has turned out to be a bit of s sh*tter and need to find the cash for a replacement gearbox / transfer box / rewire - 90 200 TDI. Please can anyone guide to me to cost of 2nd hand parts and what someone is likely to charge me to fit them.
I have been quoted circa 4k, the parts on ebay look to be around 2k.
The guy that sold it to me who is trying not to take responsibility is suggesting I can get the work done including parts for 1-2k.
Car is off the road at the moment, so it isnt so each taking it to places to get quotes!!

Sorry to hear you have a bad one ... ... an R380 is around £700 (for a recon) and the LT230 slightly less. You could probably get a pair for circa £1200. https://www.simmonites.com/shop/transmission/gearboxes/r380-gearbox/
Removal and fitting inc a new clutch (why wouldn't you) I would "guess" to be £500 ish so I think the £2K estimate is about right.

Rewiring can be expensive but a competent autospark should be able to do the whole thing for less than £1000, possibly half that if he's not supplying/fitting new looms etc.

More expensive is chassis/bulkhead replacement, how is that ?

200tdi is anLT77 Gearbox, if your going to spend the money on a r380 (a better gearbox) you need to factor in a stumpy bell housing so it fits correctly.

What is wrong with the wiring?
LT77 gearbox not the best but perfectly useable if oil changed annually, once you learn to drive them they are easy.

how bad is it? origonal factory wiring was basic, no real electronics apart from the fuel gauge

^^This, I like the LT77 - have rebuilt a few and easy enough with sensible spares prices

Did you buy from a private seller or a garage? From either you have legal rights, but importantly did the vendor state Landy "sold as seen..." and you accepted sale/purchase "as seen..." Did you sign a contract of purchase? If not, did you ask if there are any known faults with the Landy? If yes and the vendor said no known faults then I'd be firmly insisting on my money back, or, for the vendor to pay for the gearbox and txfr box.

Unless you knew these two issues existed before agreeing purchase :. you've takeng a punt and buying at a super low price, i.e. the price of the galvanised chassis plus a bit. Sadly it's always caveat emptor when buying.

Judging by the pic on your other post on the intro page, looks like you got an E Reg 90 pickup

- so it will have had a 200tdi and LT77 dropped in, looks like a decent tool but under the skin there be demons!
