Hi folks, ok after weeks of chopping and changing ideas I've finally taken the plunge and as of this morning I am a proud 1994 200tdi defender owner!!!;-)Hurrah!!!
Well naturally I want to start as I mean to go on and get stuck in with full DIY service:
My question is working front to back of truck what are the correct oils and liquids I will need to change including any specific names or no.s of said oils?
This is my first defender and I'm very proud and aim to keep her purring for years to come...well maybe not purring more rumbling!!!
It's has the rear disc axle of the last tdi's...would an original 1994 defender axle set be 24 spline?
Cheers pics later or latest Tomoz ;-)

My late 93 is 24 spline and discs all around, but at over 20 years old who knows if its original?
You sure its a 94?
I always stick exactly 6 litres in when changing filter, then whatever you do after running it is let it stand for ages before dipping as it seems to take an age for the oil level to settle, then top up if needed.

thanks guys! thats helpful advice. yes its 1994 as i have all documentation and the engine and chassis match etc.
tried to put up some pics but doesn't seem to like my pic format?
would that be lt77 gearbox ?
cheers Rob

Keep well away from anything synthetic for the tdi engines, I tried it years ago and it drank more oil than fuel.
I have covered many many thousands of miles on good old mineral oil.
So good that up until this year many of the smaller trucks on the road still used it, its only the introduction of euro 6 thats has stopped the use of mineral oil.
Bear in mind the engine is a crude bit of **** so why use anything fancy?

Thanks guys for all the info feel more confident going into it! Thanks for links I will sort pics today ;-)

Would second the mineral oil, when i first got mine was told to use semi and it used oil all the time .
Changed to mineral and no more oil loss and change it every 6 months regardless of milage.

not sure if mine is mineral or synthetic but put 10w40 in my 200tdi disco the next oil change it'll have 15w40 as that is what I have aquired
