Core plugs??

I managed to remove two of the bolts that hold the heatshield on the other two just rounded off!!!!!!! so i just levered the heatshield out of the way for now, just been searching for new ones but to no avail, any ideas??

CV joint is from a mini so would probably fit in the bore quite easy!! lol

Cut the weldnuts off with an angle grinder, clamp the two halves together and drill new holes through if needs be then fit M5 Rivnuts to the inner shell and use stainless or brass bolts/allen screws to fit back. You will be lucky to find any second hand ones because they are all a pain to get off as the heat really seizes the bolts solid.

Suppose you can but they are not going to be cheap. They are to protect wiring etc from the manifold heat. As you have discovered, there isn't much room between the manifolds and the sides of the bulkhead. Suppose you could use "Asbestos" type tape instead-obviously it will be an asbestos substitute, and wire it on or fit stainless bands etc. to hold it in place.:mil22:

Finally got the drivers head off today, after struggling to remove the exhaust manifold bolt at the back of the head, how the hell are you supposed to undo it easily!!!!!!!

The gasket had blown in the exact place as the other side so all is good, will block the head off tomorrow and try to refit the damned exhaust manifold bolt, sod the heatshields i think i`ve killed them anyway, heat wrap here we come

Finally got it back together today but now it won`t start, I`m guessing i need to enter the eac as the battery has been disconnected, is that right? I can get ignition lights etc but will not turn over

At last its running!!!!!!!!!!! :) But found another core plug that had popped, the one behind the starter arrggghhhh but managed to get it on the ramps and replace it.

Found that one of the ecu plugs was not clipped in either so that was the problem with it not starting, I must have been fed up by that time when i was bolting it back together. I have driven it home tonight and no problems apart from window mech on both front doors but they will be replaced as and when, will add pics tomorrow to show you my bargain, costs so far £50 for the gasket kit.
