Hi all,

Having just joined the forum and introduced myself I'm already after a bit of advice.

My 2001 disco 2 td5 has an annoying problem at the moment in the respect that when driving everything is fine.
However, when I park up and switch the engine off it deposits almost the entire contents of the cooling system over the floor. I'm really struggling to find where it's coming from.
I've changed to coolant filler cap and checked the usual suspects of water pump and fuel cooler end caps and it's not from there.
I don't think it's a head gasket problem coz the water is dumping over the floor and no water is in the oil system as far as I can see.
I'll keep looking but if anyone has any ideas or had similar problems I'm open to any advice.

Hi, it can dump a couple of litres. Can top it up through the expansion tank cap and it will be fine, no static leak, no leak when driving just dump when engine is switched off after engine has reached temperature.
One thing I have noticed, I've just been out to have a look and coolant is full, switched engine on and fan is operating straight away. It is warm today and I didn't drive the car but I was a bit surprised that the fan was running.

Typically, I've just ran it up to temperature on the drive and when I switched it off it was fine. I'll take it out for a quick spin in a second to see if that recreates it.

In respect to the fan, I've just realised it's a viscous jobby so will run constantly.

Been dumping water for the last three or four weeks now. Today I just can't get it to recreate the problem. I changed the coolant cap on the expansion tank as I hoped that might be the issue and it was dumping water from there due to the seals gone and the over pressure of the system when switched off. But my wife drove it the following day and it did the same thing. That was about a week ago and now I can't get it to do it again.
I'm hoping the cap fixed it although I don't understand why it did it the following day when my wife drove it. All I can think of is that the water level was still low from previous coolant dumps and the system wasn't pressurised correctly.
Fingers crossed.

seems odd that its only dumping it after you switch off... check water pump again (make sure you check the little weep-hole in the casing) and look at it when you rev it. mine seemed fine at idle but gushed out at about 2000 rpm. the only other places are bottom hoses on rad and thermostat hoses, or the rad itself. my 'mystery' leak turned out to be the pump but became obvious after a good while!
