I've read in loads of places about people cooking on their landrover's engine.
But I've found nothing about doing it in a TD5 Disco - If I look under the bonnet there's barely enough room to store a pencil let alone a saucepan :(
Has anyone out there tried doing it doing it on a TD5 DII?
If so, can you give some guidelines and maybe a couple of recipes :)

Cheers!

have a look in the defender section. there's a post in there about it. i'm running about 70/30 veg oil mix with no problems so far. CharlesY has been doing it for longer and reports no problems

I really doubt there's enough room under there for a deep fat fryer too :)
Obviously there were no budding auto-chefs logged in last night.
I'll put this on my 'maybe one day' queue.
Cheers

Opps! Must wake up properly before Reading posts (and then read them correctly!!)

think you would struggle on a td5 as the main heat source (maniflod) is quite small and also covered by a heat shield

Could always throw an egg in the header tank, would boil o/k but bet it would taste like antifreeze:D:D:D

Hmm, its a thought!
Maybe best to put it in a plastic bag though
Isn't it a high pressure job though - would the egg explode?
Maybe break it into a 35mm film canister, clip it shut, put it in a bag and drop that in....
That way you get it in a serving pot too!
I wonder how long a drive from cold the egg'd take to cook...
:)

you need to sauce (no pun :D) a book called Manifold Destiny. Search the yank forums as they are pretty keen on this stuff but it is usually done on a pipeing hot V8 block not a TDi one.

Have not tried it myself yet, but want to have a go in my series V8 1st. start with simple sausages and bacon and work from there. stuff them in foil and cable tie them to the best heat source in the engine bay.

Its all about the timeing :)

good luck

Ginsters pasty + lots of foil to wrap it in.... find a spot for it near a manifold or turbo (something hot) but don't rest it on the hot metal..... 30 minute drive should see it warmed through nicely :D

Best bet is if you can find some wiring or cables to secure the pasty in :D

Also works well with pies in foil trays :)

i tend to use my land rover for driving, towing etc etc and i find that the white machine in the kitchen that my missus operates is quite handy for cooking!!lol

Sometimes a nice warm pasty is good at the end of a drive though.... and it beats using service station microwaves :p

The MINI has a good spot just behind the intercooler, above the plugs.... not tried it on the Landy yet... plenty of room round the V8 for cheffery!
