Converting Auto v8 90 to manual box? How?

Hi, was just wondering whats involved in converting an auto v8 defender to a manual box.

Could i just use a range rover gearbox and a normal manual pedal box and linkage? or is there a conversion plate so i can use a defender diesel manual box?

Any info and opinions would be appreciated.

Its more usual to want to convert a manual to an auto, so you might be better off selling it to someone who wants an auto, and buying a manual.

Nah, Looking to put a manual box in an auto. Autos are boring imho.lol

Does anyone know what parts i need?

Am i right in saying an LT85 box should bolt straight on?

Having trouble thinking of other parts id need apart from the pedal box of course and the manual stick.

you'll need fly wheel , gearbox tunnel , and everythin you already said , and probably loads more ....

and thats a rare beast yer pullin apart if its a propper v8 auto defender ....

Thats not too much really. There cant be that much other parts needed.

Iv not got it yet but theres one i have my eye on and am planning on going to have a look at soon.

I know most people would look for a manual before you say it but if i can get a solid one with decent chassis etc then i reckon buying it and converting it is worth it as it shouldn't take too long to do.

oh ok , its your choice , but i'd drive it fer a bit and see .... if ya do buy it that is .... dont ferget the piccies tho if ya get it .....

Aye, will defo see what its like first but i can imagine wanting a manual box.

Il make sure piccies are up of it or whatever one i buy.

A V8 LT85 santana Gear box out of a breakers yard is gonna cost about £300 and a fully reconditioned one is gonna cost about £550.

Believe me Ive looked into it, my V8 box is Very noisy Gonna try and rebuild it my self, a rebuild kit is still about £300

Have a look at About Legs that should give you an idea.

I did a bit of research last night and i reckon im looking at about 450 to get a decent box.

Didn't get that v8 landy unfortunately it sold before i could get to it.

But, iv bought a 3.9efi range rover vogue to rip the engine out of.

Just need to find a decent defender 90 now. preferably a pickup. Yet another project.lol
