I had a leaking wheel cylinder which is now sorted but the brake linings have been contaminated with brake fluid. Everything is now clean and I have roughed up the linings which now 'appear' to be free from the fluid. My question is - should I replace the brake shoes?

Best practice would be new they are not dear, but if needs must slam the cleaned old ones back on.
If standard 10 inch sls shoes, the cheap birtpart ones are actually okay.

Hi Lynall. I think you are right about new shoes and it makes sense to change them. Thanks for the reply.

Thing is with the series motors, it is always worth keeping spares of pretty much everything, so when you buy gaskefs for pennies, buy a few more as you are guaranted to use them at some time, same as wheel bearings/seals etc, it's bloody annoyng when a few pence part stops you finishing the job in hand.

You can wash them with TFR or Gunk and put them back in, but they are so cheap it is probably just as easy to get new ones.

Saves on postage as well, especially if you can scrape over the free delivery minimum order at the suppliers.

I agree about the spares and saving on postage where possible which is why I had a seal kit to sort out the leaky cylinder. I also thought I had replacement brake shoes as a friend of mine gave me several sets after he sold his Landy. When I checked them this morning I found one set is for the hand brake and the other two are for 11inch brakes. I have now ordered a new set of shoes.

Thanks for all the replies, it is appreciated.
