constan fuel odor

I have a series 3 petrol which smells strongly of fuel all the time. How normal is this for these trucks?

I searched online and found some suggestions on youtube to check evap canisters for leakage. Do series 3 have canisters too? where is it?

Any suggestions for solving the problem?

Have you checked the fuel pipes? Seal between cab and engine bay? exhaust route?

Series 3's don't have evap canisters.

Is yours an 88", 109 or ex mil ?

It's 88 and petrol. I couldn't find the washer for fuel cap so today I made one from a rubber sheet and waiting to see if there is any improvement.

The filler and breather hoses are just behind the driver's seat and the tank is just underneath so there's plenty of opportunity for leakage there. The carb bodies often warp and leak and the lift pump diaphragm can leak too. No wonder they use so much fuel!
