In the next day or so i am going to replace the E.A.S. compressor seal in my p38.
My question is :when i discharge the air from the system,do i just let the vehicle rest on its bump stops.
Or is it best to put some axle stands under each corner to take some of the weight ?
I'm intending to use my E.A.S.laptop software to discharge the air tank,is this the best way.Or has anyone just put the E.A.S. in access mode and just undone the blue compressor pipe ?
Ive read up on the seal changing procedure a number of times now,its just what the correct way or purging the air before removing the compressor that i could really do with knowing :D
Cheers Andy..

Why would you discharge air from system to change compressor seal. No need to, just remove compressor and change seal refit compressor.

Hi Wammers, if i can get away with not having to discharge any air then i certainly won't. :D
Having only just started working on p38's, i presumed any work on the air system involved emptying it all first
Cheers Andy..

Ok Andy. All you need to do is take out compressor, there is no pressure in blue pipe unless compressor is running. Even then there is hardly enough to blow the top off your pint or even ripple the top of flat southern beer, the pump volume is so low. Just disconnect blue pipe take out compressor and do your job, no need to empty air tank or air bags.

All done today, and for a change without any problems.
Even the counterweight grub screw came undone, but it was tight mind:D
Surprisingly the old piston seal was in quite good condition, but the lock ring wasn't down hard enough to stop the seal turning. Not sure if the last time it was done it wasn't tapped down enough,or if it had lifted slightly over time !
Anyway jobs done now,and it does seem to produce more air quicker,as it rises faster than before i think.
I also raised the E.A.S. housing up slightly to try and stop some vibration getting in the cab,but its still noticable when running from inside
Worth doing though for peace of mind :D

It is good practice when refitting piston top ring to put pop marks N S E W to prevent it moving.
