Hi,

I'm getting the following code from my HEVAC: "(32) Compressor clutch control circuit open or short to ground"

This only appeared after I removed the engine to rebuild it. I didn't have to de pressurise the air con to remove it only move the compressor to one side. I have the earlier system that doesn't use the external relay to drive the compressor clutch. I've also tested the clutch by applying 12V to it and it clicks in fine.

Is this likely to be due to lack of gas (it never blew that cold)? Or an actual fault with the clutch control circuit.

It was on mine. Recharged it and the fault went away. I also changed the TXV though so maybe that had something to do with it. Cost me something like £30 from Rimmer Bros. They spotted the jammed TXV when they tried recharging it.

Thanks.

So I must have a leak in that case. It was only gassed last summer and before then I fitted a new condenser and drier. It never blew really cold even after filling though. Are there any other common locations for it to go?

On mine the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) was seized. This meant a) it wouldn't do a full recharge and b) back-pressure would build up and then it would vent to atmosphere.

On other cars I've had the valves where they fill it up leak. They were just like schrader valves and cost a few quid to replace - just unscrew and screw up like a car-tyre. Not sure if the P38 is the same?

there have been a few reports of pin hole corrosion in the pipes.

Correct, the flexible connections between the metal pipes are known to weep as the rubber degrades over time. But it is usually a very slow leak rather than a rapid one.

The flexible pipe leak sounds like it could be onto something though. The compressor was moved without being disconnected so maybe that upset the pipes and it all leaked out.

Found a leak in the condenser even though it was replaced last year.

I got it regarded today and the both faults disappeared. :)
