It's been a while since I posted, but I'm struggling and in need of advice.

The freelander started to smoke a little more on start up, it had a blue/grey tinge, more noticeable in the cold weather. This eased off when the weather picked up, I thort the injectors may have been due a clean, so I put a few different types through to see if I noticed any difference. The car picked up and all was well, that was until around 6/7weeks ago.

It started to puff a little blue/grey smoke when accelerating, so I put more cleaner through. This didn't affect it, it was getting worse until it started to diesel bang and become difficult to start. A local garage advised me to remove the injectors and send them off for test, he also advised me to compression test the head incase this has caused an underlying issue within the cylinders. I have borrowed a compression tester, but it's for some form of screw in injectors, it won't clamp down in the freelander injector ports.

Now, should I just get the injectors reconditioned and stick them, then hope for the best; or try and remove the glow plugs and compression test the engine from there?

Does anyone around bishop Auckland or County Durham have a compression tester that I can borrow please?

Oh, what a #### about removing the injectors is!!!!

Unless it's done massive miles or skipped lots of oil changes I can't see it needing a compression test. Injectors can fail though.

I think 1-2-3 all went mate. I disconnected each one in turn, reconnecting after the test, and the only one that made a difference to the running was injector 4, the other 3 made almost zero difference to how lumpy it's idle was.

It's on 92/93K miles, not sure about before me, but it's had 4 oil changes in 30K miles.
