Good evening,this evening i checked the compression and plugs,
No 1 plug is a bit too rich and the others are good,maybe a bit towards lean,i had to do 2 tests on number one as to double check the odd psi,i have put a kn type filter on with a new coil,i have bought new leads + powerspark distributer but not fitted yet.

Why have put a K & N filter? They allow too much free flow of air. Back pressure in the fuel system is important for ignition. As already posted change plugs and if you’ve still got the original oil filter get it back in. K & N filters are cheesy enhancements for 60’s and 70’s sports cars. They are irrelevant to a landy and not standard.
 
good morning,The only running issues is the mpg ,i have a lpg system but that will prob be too much trouble to fit this year,
I only used the haynes manual to rest my cup of tea on,

what carb do you have and what MPG does it return on a decent run?
I'm not sure what solenoid you mean, there isn't much under the oil bath filter! also, I'm not sure where you need a cork gasket for, the only one I'm aware of is for the rocker cover
otherwise sounds like you're making good progress and having fun doing it! I thought about parabolics, but ended up replacing with standards, much improvement on the old knackered ones

The oil leaks out of the oil bath down onto the starter solenoid which is directly below on the side of the chassis,i seem to recall that in the diagram i saw it showed a cork gasket between the lower oil resovoir and upper air chamber.this is where i suspect it is leaking from,i filled it up correctly etc when rebuilding,then i noticed the leak,when i got it it had about a 1/2 inch of oil and dead wasps in it.i hope it isnt split or something like a pinhole but there was no gasket between the 2 parts so thats my guess.
Due to facilities i have to plan projects ahead so filter etc will be reinstated when i can get the time,to be honest i would rather,in this weather, be out and about in the old girl,hence the.k n (type),i am only 10 mins from either coast,north or south,loads of tarmac b moorland roads around here are nice to drive in an older vehicle.sometimes i drive around the hill once,sometimes twice just for the fun of it,
It has a weber carb and i am doing the mpg working out at the moment.i know it is on the high side.
I was fixing my van on the side of the road when a passer by asked if i wanted to buy an old vehicle they had,it had been laid up for 18 years,it was in a mot station with a large estimate for work to be done,as soon as i saw it i thought that will keep me busy for a couple of weeks(!!!)and didnt think too much about it,i agreed to pay the fair asking price for the old girl as long as,on the advice of a landy owning pal, the chassis and baulkhead were sound and the garage drove it to me.this was agreed.
the elderly previous owner did their best but frankly some stuff was just downright dangerous,for instance,on the wiring,due to probs along the butchered loom they had taken an unfused feed from the battery up to the fusebox,leaving the old loom in,thus ensuring that whilst things worked,the old loom was still live,i found live,bare ends all over the place,everything was operated by its own,un labelled horrible '70's plastic see through orangy coloured toggle switches,there was probabally no more than 1 mtr of wire that had not been twisted together and taped to extend to get to the correct length,
It has been fun but as on another thread,the brakes were the most frustrating as the system seems to have a mind of its own,

I'm not sure why the starter solenoid has been moved, it's normally on the bulkhead! The oil bath should only be around half full, theres a line pressed into the side, so it shouldn't really be able to leak
 
I have seen the solenoid at that position before, why I don't know. Compression a bit low on number 1. Probably not enough to effect normal running but when cold and ticking over may cause a bit of a miss resulting in wet plug.
 
thanks for the info,I have an aftermarket isolater on the front of the seat box,below the centre seat so thats most likely the reason for the relocation of the solenoid when the cableing was done,
I measured and put the correct oil + capacity in etc,as wrote,i will get to the bottom of it but it will prob be when i do the distributer which in reality means when i get a strobe,
Due to the tyre size and speedo error the mpg working out will be fun,i will prob do it with a sat nav,

gauge accurate it’s more low if yours is the 8:1 compression
 
Thanks for the pic,my engine was just about cool enough to touch the plugs when i tested it,the low one would have been the hottest as i dont work as fast as i would like to,possibly the cranking speed wasnt as high as it should be,it has an ancient but reliable battery in it,probabally 2nd hand from when it was in the garage, when i get the pspark dizzy fitted i will run it for a few miles and recheck and maybe put some oil in no 1 for ring or valve diagnosis,
