Story so far....

2005 facelift TD4, 122,000 miles. Last serviced 75,000 :-(.

Intermittent cold starting problems for 18 months. Usual stuff, lots of cranks, followed by White smoke.

Eventually broke down. AA found that the injector contacts had worked loose and crimped them tighter.

About four weeks later, wouldn't start. Local mechanic changed 3 of 4 injectors (previously one had been replaced). Better, but still smoke White smoke.

Two weeks ago, basically gave up the ghost. I managed to start it to get it to the garage. Fuel pump and Filter replaced.

Now it won't start. I think there is a related immobiliser problem (starter motor kicks In on first turn of key, but then nothing happens when I turn the key again). Tried with spare key and it seems to be better.....but although the starter turns over, nothing else happens.

I'd thought of the following as next steps but am I missing anything:
1. Wiring to injectors
2. Check that 4th injector that was renewed a year previously
3. Fuel pressure sensor
4. Cam sensor

I am at my wits end. Problems started 3 years ago with the no-power at 3000rpm problem which I had hoped might be resolved by the fuel pump replacement. I've spent about £3000 in two years!

Mainly because every spare penny I've had durin those 47000 miles has been spent on trying to fix problems (stuff like oil changes/filters were done by a local mechanic - I mentioned lack of service because of anything that should have been done, although the service schedules suggest otherwise).

If it's a cold start problem it must be a helical issue. Just search for helical and you'll find the thread :)

Sounds like a common rail injector leak down issue. You can attempt a home cure by doing following by a tin of BG244 .... look on ebay this is demon injector cleaner. Once you have got the above............remove the original diesel filter.... get new one and fill it up with BG244. Replace, start engine run for two mins then switch off and leave for a couple of days. Restart....hopefully the BG244 will have disolved the diesel gum (what you have just performed is a common rail purge)........... run the car and take out for a run immediately ..... keep the revs fairly high.....for around 10 mins. Good luck on this.

If no further luck you could be having problems with your low pressure pump....this may need replacing.......haver a word with Roveron....it trnspires some peugeots have the same pump and these are half the price..............LR prices are around 320quid!!!!

Let us know how you are getting on .... good luck cheers

ours had a similar thing. We could get it to start by turning the key to pos II 4 or 5 times before actually starting the car. This (i understand) builds up pressure in the fuel rail.

Anyway. Pump seems fine, all injectors replaced with recon units.
The car fires up on the button but has a misfire and is pushing out white smoke...

Typical. Still with the garage for "diagnostics".

Anyway - you may need injectors replacing (or perhaps the cleaner mentioned above will work for you).
good luck.
