i have a discovery 300 tdi commercial 1997, when i go to start in mornings the disco will not start, any other time of day and its ok, 1 week ago i had the fuel pump solinoid fitted ( differant fault, lack of fuel to injecters, none start ), since i have had this fitted i noticed the glow plug light on my dash board aint illuminated anymore when ignition first on, so i have checked the glow plugs and there aint no live on them, i also checked over the work carried out on the solinoid and there aint no live there either, and no click as it used to do, is there a hidden fuse ? a common fault ? do they both work on the same circuit ? please any help would be gratefull thanks

Have you got the ignition on when you do this? If there is no voltage at the fuel stop solonoid then it wont open and the engine wont start.

hi there, still looking for help on this cold start problem , from last time i posted, i have checked the relay by changing it from a good one, still same. checked earthing points all ok, checked fuse this is ok, i decided to check over everything just to set my mind to rest, on removing the glow plug fuse ( under steering wheel, number 17 fuse ) i discovered that there is no live to the fuse, i have decided to remove the fuse box thinking that a loose wire had come away, to find it goes to a black box on the back of the fuse box, say a control unit, now im stuck. ???????????? any ideas

when you say you have traced the wire.. do you mean out of the fuse socket inside the fuse box which the goes to the black box bcause i thought that the fuse is powered from an ignition live or permanent live contact... do you have an igntion live at the relay?

yes at the relay i have a permanant live ( thick wire ) an earth ( thick wire ) then i have 4 earths ( thin wires ), when ignition is switched on one of the thin wires go live. i was playing about today with a power probe, and found that if i give one of the thin wires a live,( not the one that switches on ignition,) the relay clicks, the glow pluglight comes on, the glow plugs get there live they require and it starts first thing in mornings, so i have give this wire a permanant live from the battery on a switch in the dash, so in the morning i can just flick the switch for 10 seconds or so, and hopefully fingers crossed it should start, because if it dont, i have a gallon of petrol in the boot and it will be getting used :)

ah right what colours are the thin wires? I have a wiring diagram on autodata for this but I need to know the wire colours to follow where you looking. where abouts are you I could look if you live close..ish
