My clutch seems to feel a bit strange - it has about 2-3" of play, it needs to be pressed to the floor and when released it comes back halfway up then gradually comes the rest of the way up. Is there a way to adjust the clutch (i'm hoping it's the cable) or is this a sign it's on it's way out (not slipping)?
cheers

hj sorry new today still working out were to write and what,if its a 1.8 freelander could either be your clutch hydralics leaking,or the release arm on top of the gearbox sticking as they do rust up a bit,the release arm is a pain as you need to drop gearbox, you can loosen it up a bit buy using wd40 and spray down the shaft an d wiggle it a lot,if the hydralics have gone comes in complete kit with master and slave cylinder complete with fluid already in they normally leak into car have a look under pedals on the inside bulkhead area

its sounds like your release arm on the gearbox could be sticking, check this first if its sticking try lubricating down the shaft with wd40 or similar and then keep operating clutch to see if it frees up/ also check for leaking clutch hydralics inside of car

Had a look today and couldn't see any leaks anywhere, also couldn't see the selector arm on the gearbox? is this under the plastic engine cover? where abouts is the shaft? (sorry i'm hopless)
cheers

Hi if you stand in front of the car below the battery you will see the gearbox towards the engine on the top you should see a plastic looking cylinder in black this is the slave cylinder and its connected to the clutch release arm,go have another look.

my td4 - its clutch pedal seems to be lower - but no clutch slipping

i only do about 50 miles per week as i also have a company car - but when my car was off the road recently i used the freelander and noticed the clutch.

could it be the hydralics ?

i cant see any leaks inside the car

cheers

It could be the hydraulics. You may find that the rubber diaphragm in the master cyclinder is becoming stiff and sticking. Sounds more like the release arm though.
As pevious posts suggest, lubricate the arm before looking into the hydraulic route. Hydraulics can be a pain in the back side.
