Gents,

Got an issue with the TD5. Had a squeeling clutch for the 12 months I've owned it however it's now starting to become an issue trying to select gears whilst stationary and cold - although the clutch doesn't slip it just doesn't want to go into gear without a fight. Looking into replacing clutch/thrust release bearing/spigot bush and flywheel but been quoted around the grand mark by the local land rover specialists. So my question is; how difficult of a job is it to replace the above at home if I source the parts myself? Got a pretty well equipped workshop on the farm and a few bodies to help.
Also the old DM flywheel versus a cheaper, solid one? I don't tow with the wagon and I'm a mechanically sympathetic driver :D if that makes much of a difference. Is it worth paying extra to get a DM?

Cheers.

I've had solid flywheel on mine after i took for good some oppinions from forums about how nice ideea that is.... took it off in less than a month cos i was fed up with the vibrations and noise at high speeds so paid twice for the job and endend up with new DMF + a useless solid flywheel, fortunately i found somebody with a defender prepared for extreme off road who went for it for half it's price... i'm strongly discouraging you to put one on a D2, about the clutch replacement if you are mechanically skilled it's not complicated only laborious just be cautious to not put the drive plate the other way around...download a RAVE and all the procedure is there with exploded diagrams

Thanks for that. Similar to what I've heard elsewhere. Definitely leaning toward the DMF. Cheers.
