[Guys just picked up a 1966 series 2 a couple weeks ago. It came with a new clutch in a box and pilot bushing The shop manual shows a 9 inch and a 9 1/2 inch clutch The land rover has a 9 inch one in it and the guy bought a 9 1/2 inch one . I figured he just lost interest in it after buying the wrong clutch so he put it up for sale . After look'n at the new clutch and the flywheel is there any reason the larger one will not fit?
Is there any way to remove the tranny without pulling the motor since all the cross members are not removeable?

You can either remove the engine or the gearbox to replace the clutch. With the floor removed it is possible to slide the gearbox back enough to change the clutch, either on a trolley jack or put a piece of wood (3x2 ?) across the cab above the doors and use straps or rope to suspend the transmission. I find it easier to pull the engine if working on my own.
I think you will need the 9" clutch but it depends on what previous owners have changed in the past.

I believe a s2 box only takes a 9" but I only say this from browsing parts catalogue. To change the clutch you can do it from top by removing seat box floors and tunnel, unbolt props, handbrake bits, gbox mounts and prob clutch master? Plus other bits. Can separate the box using an engine crane to support load. A days work for your average landy enthusiast. My ex para neighbour said in the forces they do this from underneath just using bench press power! I opted for a crane:D
