Hi everyone. I asked a local garage, in Spain, for a quote to replace the clutch & slave on my 2005 Td4. I am pasting what was sent to me. Might anyone have a comment on the price(s) quoted?
It does seem an awful lot.
My Lander has only done 99k miles.
Any thoughts, anyone? The price is in Euros.
Oh, it's the slave that is the problem, by the way. It intermittently seems to leak oil.

We have had a price provided for the clutch kit.
For the 3-piece clutch kit which includes, Disc, pressure plate and slave comes to 439.82 +IVA.
If it also needs a new flywheel the price is 1098.59 + IVA, we won’t know the condition of the flywheel until we remove the clutch
The labour will be approx. 10 hours @ 35 + IVA
If you have any further questions, please give us a call
Many thanks.

I am seriously considering doing it myself. I have a super tool kit, enough to do the job mentioned, although perhaps just the slave. What might you think?

Hi,

There is no need to change the flywheel, it is pretty solid on the freelander td4, especialy at 100k miles.

Changing it for almost inexistant blue marks, don’t worth it.

35 per hours is pretty cheap.

The garage certainly charge you 4 hours only for changing the flywheel :(

Thanks, everyone. I've checked Luk parts and they're certainly cheaper than they quote.
I'll ask the garage for them and see what's what.

I would imagine lady parts are going to be a fair bit more expensive outside the uk due to shipping and import costs. The prices quoted look fair to me unless they pressure you into changing the flywheel unnecessarily. €35 per hour labour is a bargain compared to uk labour costs which seem to average about £75 per hour

It's actually €35 + 21% (IVA which is Tax).
So 10 hours work equates to... 423.50
For this job, does this still sound okay?

The hourly rate is still cheaper than most in the UK.
Not convinced by the 10 hours aspect however - without changing the flywheel it should only be a 4-5 hour job, I would have thought.
:)

I thought the freelander hydraulic circuit came complete, master/slave and pipework?

Only the 1.8 petrol or L series diesel does this, as it's peculiarity of the PG1 gearbox used on both those engines.
The TD4 uses a Getrag gearbox which has a concentric slave/bearing, and as such the pipes have to split or you can't get them through the bell housing. ;)
