As the friction plate of my RR '81 needs to be replaced a question:
I've no equipment to take the engine out. So I thought to do it from the
inside of the car. Take out the gear cover plate , loosen both propshafts
,take out the bolts of the bell housing, support the engine ,loosen also the
mounting bolts on the chassis. After supporting also the gearbox, move it
backwards away from the engine ,and renew the clutch.
Anyone done this before ? Or is there not enough space to move the gearbox
far enough backwards? Maybe other problems pop up?

Thks

Kees

Kees,
oudere RR's.

alles is vlot bereikbaar.

Groeten, Pros
België

well according to babelfish a rough translation says:

As far as I am possible weet the acceleration barge, but then only along down. I doubt if there place is enough removing the floor plate. Do not be mistaken yourself you, acceleration - and transferbak are bija just as large as the engine himself. You the seats there also must remove, what is nevertheless also a job at the older RR's. question me not how I that weet; -) Myself have times already two my V8 eruitgehaald (82RR) and truth it not that I the inox spaghetti-uitlaten must dismantle that such a job would not even be. You must indeed the complete voorbouw and dismantle the radiator, but everything are smoothly contactable. Crap to the link bell are possible, however, to what problems to give, I have then solved that by ringsleutel (English half-measure!) so that to fold I could come more easily behind the engine. A day preparation, one day girafje engage, engine, link renew, there and assemble a day. Must be to do

Just got an answer from someone in Belgium who thinks the gearbox can only
be removed from underneath the car. So he's also not sure if the clutch can
be renewed as described by me. Maybe someone else knows?

I rather doubt you can on a Range Rover. You can on a series or 90/110 by
removing the seat box and floor panels, and the gearbox tunnel piece. Even
then, I ended up splitting the gearbox and T-box removing them in 2 stages,
although it was a ZF auto and therefore not standard.

Renewing the dry clutch on a Defender fitted with a ZF auto? That's a novel
experience you had there Austin ;-)

well, you know me - if it's not something different, I'm not interested.
Actually, it was a clutch failure - A clutch in the box.
