is it possible for me to change the clutch on a 300 disco with out dropping the gear box?(as i'm working by myself)
could i remove the propshafts, exhaust, unbolt from the engine and then slide it back on the crossmember?

or do i make the wife do it as she ****ed it?this would increase costs and i'd end up paying for it anyway.

The Disco body is very tight to the gearbox and sliding back is not and option; it has to come down and back.

The gearbox cross member can be removed and you have to to remove the gearbox.

If you split the exhaust just at the joint just behind the back of the box that helps too as there is a flexible joint up near the bell housing and it gives you some 'wiggle room'.

I've always done the box out route. :) Each way has it pros and cons.

I jack em um up and put a concrete chimney block under each wheel, that gives me nearly an foot extra clearance underneath.I then take the gearbox/transfer box off in one lump useing rachet straps onto the chassis.

It can be done with out dropping the box but it dunt leave you much room, especialy if you want to do it right (i.e change spigot bearing, clutch bearing, lever etc..)
