Hi the cutch on my mates freelander goes allmost all the way down before gear selection is possible , the fluid level is ok is there anything else apart from a worn clutch or is it off to mike and the mechanics for a replacement cluthc etc?
I already told him I can do it but I wont :D( dont like doing transvestite boxes it aint natural)!!!

The other option is the clutch master/slave hydraulic assembly.
When mine failed I ended up replacing the lot ie master cyl, slave cyl and pipework as it came as a one piece assembly.

Changing a clutch in a Freelander is not for the faint hearted - needs a big hammer.

It's more than likely a problem with hydraulics or slave cylinder mounting bracket depending on the model.
On TD4s you can only change the master cylinder as the slave is within the bell-housing. But it can be bled which can improve things if not fix it.
On the older L series diesels and petrols you have to change both cylinders as they are joined as one sealed unit. These also suffer from bent or broken slave cyl. bracket which is an easy fix.

Before you try anything else, bleed the clutch fluid all the way through from the slave cylinder, so that you change the fluid. The fluid dosent stay good for ever
