SIIa with a SIII gearbox

Clutch has just gone real soft , does not release drive except for the last inch or if you pump it. I have bled the system and its the same,if you pump you get bubles /froth in the fluid resevior. But the odd thing is if you hold it on clutch, it does not seem to slowly engage the drive as i would expect if the master seals had gone.

Any ideas before i do what seems inevitable and change the master cylinder. Is is a valve of some sort stuck, this just started overnight, it had been standing for 2 months.

Also, i had considered swaping for a SIII dual brake system at some piont, would it make sense to install a SIII master clutch now as they would no longer share a resevior, any1 done this and will it just fit in unmodified ?

Dont wana turn a 3hr job into a 2 day jo in this weather

Have you got a Ser II or Ser III clutch system. If you are using the Ser II system, check that you haven't broken a pin in the cross shaft where it goes into the bellhousing.

The bubbling in the reservoir is usually a sure sign of seals failure in the master cylinder.

Try a seal kit straight away. Or do the new master cylinder job you were trying to put off till the summer.

Thanks chaps, new master on the table, just need a few hours without rain and gale force 790 winds. Gona fit a SIII master in prep for changing the brakes to duel circiut servo type(some how)
