Hi Everyone,

Had a bad Sunday the clutch pedal goes to the ground whilst waiting in traffic, so pops the bonnet see some fluid around the pipework. Get it back home from breakdown, and so gets a master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch bleeding kit.

I am having really a bad time trying to bleed the clutch i get it to a point where I can hear it just about making contact with the push rod in the bell housing and thats it. How long does it take? I have tried various ways on bleeding it via this forum and the internet and the bleeding kit but still no further. Thought it may be the clutch fork but checked it with ultimate Land Rover and they told me if it was the fork then I wouldn't be able to press the pedal much at all and it must be a hydraulic issue. Any ideas anyone.

I am going to get some spare seals for the master cylinder as when I went to the place to get it I though it would be a new one but it was a used one and knowing my luck that may be just as crap as the original one
Any ideas anyone as it would be much appreciated as I am also having trouble with my Rangy aswell on the Rangy forum.

I am having to use a flamin hire car to get to work at the moment:mad:

Many thanks

Matt

Thanks Redhand I'll try again any tips as I am not having much luck. If its the fork I do not fancy that job I think it may have to goto a garage for that as I don't fancy dropping the gearbox etc for that job its fairly big and I am not getting any younger!!

Easi-bleed is best for brakes and clutch-pressurizes whole system, and you can bleed on your own-they are on ebay or motor spares shops.
On your clutch, how far is your slave rod sticking out from the bell housing?
When my fork went ,it was only protruding a few mm-it needs to be more like an inch-if you have not got that I would suspect fork is punched thru-If your slave rod is protruding a good amount then it is to do with hydraulics and bleeding-good luck

Thanks Biolandy.

I got an easy bleed and it still wouldn't do it, got to the point when you press the pedal it would sound like it would meet the slave rod and just not do anything else.

From what you say aswell my slave rod just about protrudes a few mm and sounds like as you say that it has gone through the clutch fork, it is no where near an inch, it took some rather jiggling about to make sure the slave cylinder was located correctly within the bell housing.

I am going to get it to a garage tomorrow so they can change the clutch and ask them to do the clutch fork at the same time.

Many thanks for everyones help, it is much appreciated :)

Make sure they fit the HEAVY DUTY FORK,the one with an extra strap welded (or washer) on the back where the pivot ball bears on it in the bell housing-with this,it will last far longer-don't fancy doing it yourself?

Got the clutch done from the garage with a heavy duty fork too thanks Biolandy, £225 which I didn't think was too bad considering the job and they did it in under 2 hours too. With a really good after service care. I must admit I didn't want to do this job myself as the gearbox is really heavy I have enough jacks to do the job but I am not getting any younger...lol :D They put the old clutch fork in the car, the pin had gone right through it:eek:

Well at least she is better now:)

Just the Rangy to sort now

Thanks for everyones replies

Matt
