Hi anyone know how to cure a stiff clutch pedal , No matter how i try i cant bring the pedal up smoothly its like its all or nothing , i know im not up full strength , been ill , But even so its jerky . There is a bit more than the 6mm free travel in the pedal , when i adjust it will that help , or is it another issue . thanks gerry

Have you tried lubricating the pivot point?

Well, now that would need to be checked, never worked out which pedals are fitted to what, I know I did mine. But even then I have heard others have just changed the whole pedal assy. So would take a bit of checking on the OP's part.

If it is the long tension spring fitted and the pedal arm has the notch in it to accept the rotary spring then I would think it could be done.

Been importing parts like crazy for my Landy including all new brake and clutch parts. I did some research last year on a servo assisted clutch. There was a servo which came from an MGB which seems to fit with some mods according to what I read, I also heard that someone used to make an aftermarket one too, will see if I saved links.
I have all my pedals and boxes out which were sand blasted and power coated waiting to go back in, however I was toying with the idea to extend the clutch pedal for more leverage, dont know if there will be clearance issues. I dont have any issues so far with a heavy clutch, but I am sure some day I will be there once me and my Landy are still around.
 
Ive only had a quick look , but did grease the spring from in the cab , which all looked bone dry . I will check the pivot pin properly , What is the spring mod ? . Is this a none problem . Its not done a lot since its last MOT and me getting it recently and everything is a bit stiff and the pedal is next to do . then the wipers which work with no play just slow but maybe im expecting my golf wiper speed , Back to the clutch so check the pivot , anything else

the spring mod is to change the spring form the long coil spring attached to the foot well:

to a different spring acting on the pedal assembly:

This can only be carried out if you have the newer pedal made from a single flat plate:

If you still have the old pedal made from a folded c section:

then it will not work and will require the more modern style of pedal to be fitted. This just reduces the spring force so their is less resistance from the spring to overcome. As already suggested i would lubricate all of the moving parts and use it for a little if it has been standing. You may find it frees off through use.

Googled and there's pictures of both , So not sure if to swap it round or not , So far its 80/20 in favour of the top position , There must be a correct way . Haynes manual is usless
 
Thanks for looking for me , As soon as this stupid notepad downloads I will look , if I don't reply its because I'm struggling to reply , Not having much luck lol
 
Got me head scratching then i was looking at both mods , really is not my day , im putting spanners back in there box . Well spring is on top!! , ive had the lid off up top and all very dry on the pivot , so greased it up and adjusted the clutch travel 140mm off the floor and 6-9mm free play , Hopefully with a bit of use it should sort its self out . Or i best get down the gym

Sorry I should have said the pictures were just pulled off google to show the different pedals. I did not notice the spring position but mine is the other way as well, I would suggest that picture has it fitted upside down.

If you already have the lighter spring and it does not improve with usage it is possible to fit a remote servo to the clutch. I know others have done it and have seen threads details it in the past but it not something I have any specific knowledge on.
 
Thanks everyone for all the help on this . The pedal is now much smoother , but there's still this all or nothing point on the pedal but at least its more controllable .
