Clutch Pedal Part - HDC Sensor Clip

Hiya dudes,

My Freebie has a bit of an issue with the clutch pedal coming too high up after being released.

The reason for this is that my foot slipped off it a few weeks ago and snapped the little plastic clip that holds the HDC sensor in place. I've done a search and several people seem to have had the same problem but not diagnosed it as this. (I know it's this as I've had it out - it just clips in)

Does anybody know the part number for this little plastic clip? I've tried a bit of Araldite, but it won't hold.

It looks like it should only cost about 20p, but I bet Landrover charge about £20 for it! I've asked at my local main stealer and they can't find the part.

Can anyone help??? Clutchdust might just be the man of the moment... again!

I dont know whats broken off but the clutch pedal height is controlled by the master cylinder, i had a 1.8 come in with the same problem and i replaced the hydraulics assembly to cure it, i couldn't see a stop of any kind

I'm not with you when you say "HDC sensor", the only sensor on the clutch pedal would be a switch to turn off cruise control when the clutch is pressed
 
Possibly a totally different setup Clutchy...

Mine is a 2002 (01 reg) TD4 and there is a definitely a stop... it's apparently a magnetic switch for the hill descent control (so a Landy tech told me at the dealer in Stockport, when I passed by). The end of the clutch pedal rests on it and it has notches in the side to adjust the height.

With it broken, the clutch pedal has about 2-3 inches of freeplay. Other than that it engages and disengages perfectly (for a Landy!).

I'll try and get pics of it to show you what I mean, but my footwell is full of sh**e at the mo, so I'll have to pick my moment!

Having revisited this problem... after driving round in it for the past few months, I've decided the master cylinder is shafted.

There is a tiny amount of hydrolic fluid round it.

I've finally sorted the stop problem, byt putting a couple of tiny screws into the little plastic clip that holds the electronic thingy in place. This now holds the clutch at the right height and leaves it with about 1cm of freeplay.


How hard is it to change a master cylinder? Should I leave it to the pros?


Also come to the conclusion that my clutch plates aren't too knackered... it's not slipped since, despite me trying and trying to get it to go! (Can a duff master cylinder affect this?)
 
A faulty master cylinder wont cause a clutch to slip but it will cause clutch drag and poor/no gear selection.

Replacing it is easy............
1. unclip it from the pedal
2. from under the bonnet, twist it 45 degrees clockwise and pull it out of the bulkhead
3. disconnect it from the slave cylinder, the join is on the right hand side of the engine (when viewed from the front) just under the vacuum resovoir, its a bit fiddly, using an 18mm spanner, push the white collar into the slave end and pull apart.
4. refit the master in the bulkhead by inserting and twisting 45 degrees anticlockwise
5. route the pipe and push it in the slave end, it should lock in place, if not, undo the bleed nipple, push the two halves together then do up the bleed nipple.
6. connect the master to the pedal, it just pushes on.
7. check clutch operation, you shouldn't need to bleed it as the parts are pre filled and seal when they are split, if the pedal is ****, then bleed it but its very rare you have to, just give the clutch a few pumps and it should come to life without bleeding.

Any clue what's causing the sort of stepping/rumbling on full lock from the rear?

VCU is fine... rear diff is now full of oil and rear diff bushes are all fine!
 
hmmmmmmmmmm not sure without hearing it myself, whats the rear tyres like? they make a hell of a noise when they're worn unevenly.

Almost brand new.

99.9999999% sure it's the rear diff... noise has decreased massively since I added the new oil. Still happens at times, but I've really been trying to get it to happen.

Clutch hasn't slipped in the slightest since the other day... must have been my imagination! Think the master cylinder's bolloxed though... will stick a new one in when I come back from skiing next week.
