clutch pedal on 18i petrol any ideas

before i go ahead & buy a new clutch master cylinder is there any other reason why the clutch pedal stays down on the floor sometimes then i just pull it back up & then its fine for a while

Theres air in the clutch system. If it wont bleed up, you will have to spend some brass. I ve had a td4 for 4 months , wallett and bank account now empty starting to wish i had'nt botherded.

I would be suprissed if air in the system would cause this fault, if it disengages O.K. some of the time.

I had a similar fault on mine a while back.

I changed the master/slave cylinder assembly and it made no difference at all. It turned out the fault was inside the clutch mechanism itself. Presumably the driven plate was sticking on the shaft or something.

I had a new clutch fitted by the garage and since then it's been fine. The clutch feels much lighter, too.

had a similar problem about 12 months ago, mine "seemed" to only do it in cold weather, so i too thought it was the air in the system.
Took it to L/R agent (still in warrenty) turned out to be a rare case of the release arm in the box! Strangley they kept them in stock, a very rare case!

I had that. Mine was the shaft going into the clutch housing. They eventually seize up due to a mismatch of metals. A quick fix is to spray penetrating oil along the shaft. Do it asap before the shaft seizes completely and the clutch slave cylinder slips off the mounting bracket and explodes...(like wot mine did). I ended up at my local garage completely seized and they heated it up with a blow torch then applied penetrating oil. it's been ok since. (oops what have I said).
