Can someone please give me a few tips on how to set the clutch pedal height? My 90 is fitted with a 300-type clutch pedal and I think it doesn't have enough free play (I can't feel any free play but I'm not sure if it's due to the spring). I measured the pedal height yesterday and it's about 6mm lower than it's supposed to be. I can't for the life of me figure a way how to fit a spanner (any type of spanner) onto the adjusting nut on the pushrod with the pedal in situ. It's easy enough with the pedal box on the bench. If push comes to shove, I'll remove the pedal box but would like to avoid it if possible.

a 1/2 or 13mm ring spanner with a slot cut in to fit over rod helps ,as is someone pressing pedal whilst you fit spanner on the other side
Excuse my crass stupidity but there's something which has bothered me for a while. I had fitted a 300tdi-type pedal (the one which is spring assisted). Since then I have had no free play at the top of the pedal travel. If I recall correctly though, the spring keeps the pedal firmly in the up-position so how could I know whether there is no free play due to the spring or due to incorrectly adjusted pushrod?

Disconnect the spring?
You could take the spring off, set up the free play and then refit spring.

Or take the pedal box out.
Just decide which provides the best hassle/ease factor and then do that

You don't need free play at the pedal as such just free play at the push rod.
Whip the top off the pedal box and, with a helper, check if the pedal moves slightly before it pushes on the master.
If you get your fingers in there you can feel the slack.

you wont get free play at the push rod ,you will need some on the pedal otherwise fluid wont return fully and clutch will eventually lose clamping force

I did a mates 300 tratter a few months ago, clutch dragging, took me 10 mins to do but I already had the modded spanner.
I'm fairly certain that I just adjusted the pushrod nuts to give a little movement of the pedal before the master piston moved.

my,mistake was thinking of slave rod ,you are correct and a modded spanner is vital
