Chaps,

I recently swapped in my 99 Auto disco for a 2002 Defender with 40k on the clock. So far I love the truck! I have a question/observation though,

I have noticed a funny noise. It happens when I start the car, generally when it has been standing for a while (overnight etc). It’s a sort of moaning noise and it happens when I push the clutch in, for a few seconds then goes, then happens again for a few secs when I push it in again. Weird thing is the noise seems to go once the car gets going/warms up. It happens when I am manoeuvring out of the house and generally goes after a few minutes on the road. Haven’t heard it after any prolonged driving etc.

It seems to make the same noise whether the clutch is right in or just at the bite point etc as if you were moving the car etc.

Car seems to drive lovely, can’t find any other problems with it, just this weird noise.

Any help appreciated.

what buggered, or just rattling etc? How many miles does yours have on it?

Is it a big job to change or fix etc?

don't worry about it - most make the same noise, and your clutch or release arm will probably fail before the release bearing does

any timescales etc. Are we talking a long time or months etc. Im going to the Alps for 5 months with it, so would like to know if its going to be a weak point in the vehicle?

Just a bit worried as its a new car etc etc. still getting the feel of it

Cheers

it might last another 40k or it might go tomorrow, same with plenty of other components

it's not a complex job to replace, even a froggy up a mountain type garage would be able to do it if it does go

just remember to get it changed when the release arm/clutch gets replaced (eventually)

stop worrying

Mine has always done it! just replaced the bearing and arm with new and it still does it!

stop worrying! its part of life when owning a defender!

next rattle please......!
