I think my clutch master/slave cylinder are about gone on my defender, mainly due to difficulty changing gear over the last few months..

How much do you think roughly a main landrover dealer would charge to supply and fit?

Thanks

Both mine went at the same time and it was still easy enough to change gear just didn't have much travel on the clutch pedal!

Its an awkward sod of a job but easy enough to do!

If you can't do it, have a word with Ken or Dave at Cheviot on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

They are excellent, don't charge through the nose, and will give you an estimate up fromt!

It changes gear ok, then when I stop sometimes its difficult to get it into 1st dear, I have to depress the clutch then lift it and depress again to change gear, it just wont go in sometimes... Sometimes its ok..

What did happen only on one occasion was I had the clutch fully depressed and it was pulling away slowly, this happened once.. you would think straight away clutch slipping or on its way out, but I read somewhere the master/slave cylinder causes similar problems sometimes, and with difficult gear changes...

Sounds like the pressure plate isn't lifting, could be low fluid level, air in the system. old contaminated fluid or master and/or slave......check fluid level first, if low hunt for leaks in pipework and connections, if the seals gone in the slave then fluid will leak out (nor sure where on a Td5....no wading plug hole???). If fluid level is good master seals have gone as there'll be no loss of fluid just loss of action.

Thanks for that much appreciated, I'll check when I'm back from work in a weeks time..
