Hi,

I cannot change gear with the engine running, i can change gear with the engine stopped, i can start in gear no problem. I think it could be the master cylinder?, i have removed the spring from the clutch inn the cab and there is still considerable pressure on the pedal, which would say the master cylinder is ok?, any ideas, other than that could it be the clutch thats gone?,

Thanks

Peter

Look at the slave cylinder first. And crack the bleed nipple while someone depresses the pedal to see if fluid comes out. If it does and the slave piston moves ok then if could be the clutch or leaking seals in the m/cylinder. Has the fluid level dropped recently?

Could be a seized slave cylinder - or master cylinder. Definitely worth investigating/ changing these first 'cos they are all external components. Getting at the clutch is a little more difficult.

Tried slave and master cylinder all working fine, removed inspection hatch cover on bell housing, pressure plate seems to be working fine when i press on the clutch it goes in and out, looks like gearbox will be coming out over the weekend, Thanks

cylinders are cheap but I'd avoid Britpart ones...they worked but wept brakefluid slowly over my shoes leading to lack of paint in cab, fluid in clutch and annoyance at doing the job twice. In the end got NOS LandRover ones and not had to top it up since.

Check that the adjuster in the pedal box isn't too far out it should have some (about 1/2"-1"?) of free play at rest other wise plunger isn't going all the way back
