Hi again everyone,

I’ve got a Clutch pedal that won’t return on my 1987 ex military defender 2.5 na. I’ve replaced the master cylinder and the pipe which goes from master cylinder on drivers side to the slave cylinder flexi hose down on the near side , I’ve bled it but still no return of the pedal. Also fitted a new spring on the pedal arm. Any thoughts please as now scratching my head again! Any thoughts or help gratefully received, thank you!

Bet your clutch fork has punched through. Remove the slave and measure how much pushrod is poking out . Edit...or the master pushrod might be over adjusted...not sure on that but there needs to be a slight amount of clearance before the pedal moves the pushrod in the master, view through the removable plate with a helper just moving the pedal.

Thanks, fantastic, that makes sense!

Will probably push on and replace the slave too! I fitted the master in roughly the same position that it was set to before replacement but will get some help and readjust. Fingers crossed! Many thanks again! 👍

What's the story behind why you decided to replace the master etc.
Was the clutch OK before or not?
Slave will fit either way to the bell housing but the nipple has to face up to be correct.

Hi ‘Flossie’ thank you for your help.

From a weak but fairly normal clutch, the pedal began to stop returning and at best it was slow, just got worse and I decided that the spring was quite weak and old, so I started with that, then the clutch master and the pipe across the bulkhead to the flexi hose above the slave cylinder. I’m cracking on to change the Slave cylinder, the flexi pipe and then it should be a fairly new system after I bleed it through!

Hopefully this will sort it, but will come back and let you know how I get on, yes I will keep the nipple on the slave facing up! Thanks so much. Parts on their way from John Craddock Ltd., the guys there have confirmed that my part numbers are correct, so that’s a start!😀😉👍
