Just bought a 1999 TD5 Dico.
Known it from new and has been well looked after.
When I change gear from 2nd to 3rd the gears feel as if they are grating a
bit.
I have also been having the odd problem where I can't find any gear and the
clutch pedal feels soft.

sorry if there is not enough info please feel free to ask more questions.

Richard

Hi Richard ,

Two possibles:

1. Gearbox on it's way out as one of the selector forks has got bent and or
shaft is worn - NEW GEARBOX -£850

2, Fork arm on the clutch is about to have pivot go through it - gearbox
out, new fork arm and spindle - £232

I would say it is more likely to be the second one. In fact I woudl say
definently the second one.

Either way depressing.

Andrew

I have been there and got the tee-shirt

but check the clutch hydraulics first, in case it's something simple.

hadn't they fixed that arm thing by then?

and in any case, I assume (not having seen it) that a competent bloke could
weld it up and reinforce it for a few quid, if they want that sort of silly
money for it.

Thanks to both for the help.

I have been to see my friendly car mechanic and it looks like it is the
clutch master cylinder (£99) which is leaking.

cheers

Richard

Life has to get worse before it gets better.
Clutch just failed totally ! !
Found a hole in a piece of flexi pipe near the master cylinder which was
giving the engine bay a fluid shower each time the clutch was pressed. It
has been rubbing on the mounting bolt of the master cylinder.
If your reading this I suggest you check yours now before you do anything
else.
Cost now down to £10.

Does that include the respray? Brake and/or clutch fluid and paint don't get
along!
