Clutch biting point has always been basically "in the carpet" since I bought the Hipp-o-crap. Clutch release arm is nice and free

Tried bleeding the clutch - and whilst the fluid was a bit manky, it didn't appear to have air in. Slapped on the hydraulics from my Rover 45 (after swapping the master cylinder piston) and it made no difference.

Went out today to fit a brand-spanking hydraulics and bracket - and now it's WORSE?!?! Have to pump the pedal a few times to even get it into gear with the engine running.

I tried spacing out the slave cylinder, just in case something was a bit dodgy there... zero change

So... does the Freelander PG1 gearbox, use a different master cylinder to other Rovers? Or am I missing a trick here??

Need the car for work tomorrow, so a solution would be amazing :(

I'm not sure if the Freelander uses the same master as the rover equivalent so i'm no help in that department.

It might be worth getting someone to physically look at the clutch release arm whilst someone moves the clutch pedal about 1/8 to 1/4 of its travel - if the slave shows no sign of movement while this is happening then suspect there is still air in one of the components, and/or the master or slave is faulty.

If the release arm does show movement at not a lot of pedal movement, then check how far it moves it with the pedal all the way down - if that checks out okay you can assume it's moving the clutch arm how much it is supposed to. In that case perhaps there is a fault with the clutch or release plate inside the gearbox.

Been chatting with a few people today - and it sounds like the clutch diaphragm arms have gone a bit soft. So the clutch is being held nice and tightly, but the arms ain't having none of it.

Threw the molested Rover 45 setup back on, to get it mobile. When it starts making horrible noises, I'll order another clutch

are we talking about the 1800 petrol or diesel because the petrol you need the complete system master / slave cylinder as these are a sealed unit if it is this one have a look at the slave holder plate on the engine as these crack and you will loose the pressure onto the arm.

L series diesel - basically the same as the 1.8

Original bracket was perfect, as is the new one. Flexes about 2mm under full pedal pressure
