Please help befor I pick up my AK47 and start mowing down innocents in the street.

Clutch fork poked through 2 wks ago - not surprising as the old girl (98 300TDI) has just turned 200 000 miles.

I replaced the fork, master and slave cylinder, thrust bearing and both drive and driven plate (spindle bush was almost worn through but driven plate looks almost untouched)

Thought Id do a proper job as I was in there.

Put her all back together - a little bemused by the airfix type retaining clip.

Drove 8 miles and the thrust bearing exploded - assumed it was faulty and my parts supplier replaced the entire kit. (VALEO)

installed the second kit and repeated the performance after 3miles!!

Quite concerned I checked the spigot bush (we call this a pilot bearing downunder) and its fine. There is minimal slack in the primary shaft and when it was running it was faultless (for a total of 11 miles).

Both failures occoured when the clutch was depressed - no noises etc - just a lurch then a squeal of shattered bearing.

My parts supplier has supplied me a LUK clutch kit but I dont want to just keep throwing them in....

My HAYNES manual refers to slippers which go on the end of the fork - but my original clutch didnt have these and none of the new forks or kits have included them

Any suggestions

Thanks James- I hope this will sort me out - I am still quite amazed at how flimsy these bits are- particularly the plastic staple - makes me want to weld a cover or clip over it
