hello all again
as above some help advice needed please

whilst driving my defender 90 200tdi last night i lost clutch pressure again.
this happened to me a while back and after bleeding the clutch and fitting a new slave all was fine.

on the two occasions that this has happened ive been on a long drive.
so journey starts fine and after some distance loss of clutch presure.
resulting in me doing the whole journey home in 5th (not easy)

ive noticed that the clutch line is extreamly close to the exhaust.

is there a possability that the clutch fluid is getting boiled and therefore not working as it should ?

after leaving the car over night and letting everything cool down i get back the clutch peddle back and can engage gear again

also ive noticed that every 2-3 weeks i have to top up the master with a fimble of fluid
could this be a problem or is this normal ?

has a faily new hd clutch and fork fitted also

help please

dont know to much to help you but im having the same problem.

there is a leak somewere on mine think its from the master slave but even if your clutch fluid was to boil *unlikley* it stays in the system as there is no were for it to evaporate to, just go's a black colour like on my motorbike after a long hard ride.

First mistake... Always replace the slave and master as a pair and dont use **** part..

Hows the clutch hose ?? when was it replaced ??? is it ballooning when hot ??

If the fluid was evaporating you would also get moisture in in when it cools.
Water doesn't compress so you would have a ****ty spongy pedal all of the time.

Also check that the clutch pedal height etc is set up right

sorry forgot to say in my first post that she also has a new master

clutch hose has not yet been replaced
was thinking about putting a braided ss clutch on as it sit less than 20mm from the downpipe
opinions ?

will also check the height

After bleeding the clutch twice the peddle feels great
But
With the engine running I can't engage gear but when it's switched off I can select any gear.

Any ideas

Yep sounds like your boiling the clutch fluid to me.
when i had exhaust troubles i ended up just taking the whole thing off from the manifold (stupidly! but i just couldn't take the rattle any more) and after a couple miles i had no clutch and had to wait for it to cool back down.
sounds like your doing the same thing but obviously on a larger distance scale.
Could you get a photo up to show how close the pipe is?

Check eBay. Search for exhaust tape and wrap it up! With the good stuff you can hold the exhaust pipe straight after a run! Cheaper but probably not easier to fit than a steel clutch pipe.

You'll need stainless cable ties thingy-ma-bob's or some jubilee/hose clamps to secure the ends

I will do something with the pipe
But
Now my main concern is. The car has sat for 3 days now. I bled the clutch again yesterday. With the engine off I can select any gear but when I switch the engine on I'm not able to.

Anyone why this issue is.

Sounds like the clutch plate and friction plate are stuck together. You press the clutch but the plates stay together. Google freeing clutch plate and see what you get
